Dear Neighbor,

It has been a profound honor to represent you as a member of the Mountain View City Council. In 2018, I ran for City Council and have been proud to work on COVID-19 relief efforts and programs, support our small businesses, create public and private partnerships to address our housing needs, and support the most vulnerable in our community. I was an early supporter of the Castro StrEATS and Outdoor Mountain View programs, and secured funding for multiple Project Homekey sites—programs and services that have uplifted our city through a tough time in our collective history.

Today, I am excited to announce my candidacy for re-election, and continue our work to make the City of Mountain View a great place to live, work, and play - prioritizing our quality of life.

What makes our community great is all of you. For the past four years, I witnessed our community navigate with great perseverance, resilience, and compassion through the COVID-19 pandemic. With your support, we were able to provide virtual programming and essential services that went toward the Guaranteed Basic Income Pilot Program “Elevate MV”, Mountain View Solidarity Fund, and Community Services Agency. We now focus our efforts on recovery so that the most vulnerable in our community and city can rebuild.

Many milestones have been reached. Beyond COVID-19 relief, we have worked on adopting a goal confirming Mountain View’s commitment to diversity and inclusion – to “promote strategies to protect vulnerable populations and preserve the socioeconomic and cultural diversity of the community.” I firmly believe that Mountain View’s diversity is our strength, contributing to making our city a wonderful place to live. We have also worked hard to address our sustainability and resiliency goals to combat climate change and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.

As a third-generation Mountain View resident, full-time working mom, and volunteer, I have seen our community transform, adapt, and change firsthand. My family has laid down its roots in Mountain View and has proudly passed down its traditions to my family today. In fact, my grandparents met in Mountain View; my grandfather opened his own small business here over 70 years ago as a flower grower. Our ten-acre flower-growing nursery is where I spent the early years of my life. I am proud to now have the opportunity to raise the next generation of my family in our community.

This work cannot be done without you. I look forward to working with you to create a Mountain View that remains the vibrant community we call home. I would be humbled to earn your support.

I look forward to connecting at ellen@ellenkamei.com or on the campaign trail.

Gratefully,
